Wood Dear Universe
Wood Dear Universe, from Grapat.
Grapat invites you to explore outer space with their set of planets, stars and moons. Besides being objects for open-ended play, these planets also work as a perfect addition to Grapat's weekly calendar. As the days of the week were originally named after planets, can you match them all?
This Dear Universe set contains more than 40 wooden pieces, sized from 12mm to 45mm in diameter. This set can be combined with the weekly calendar 17-168 (sold separately).
Grapat provides material without instructions, for open-ended and autonomous play. Their sole premise is to allow children to play, slowly, without time limits. Grapat hand crafts materials that encourage, invite and stimulate the creation of invented little worlds.
Grapat products are made following traditional processes, with thick, soft, raw materials, and natural dyes which highlight the wood veins and vibrant, coloured waxes and oils that slightly shine. Their homemade products are painted by hand, and they work surrounded by nature with many children nearby, whose presence inspire the makers daily.
Grapat uses wood from sustainable forests and holds the certification PEFC 14-35-00485. All their dyes are water based and non-toxic. The colours and their appearances might very slightly, like nature itself. The finishes are made with wax and plant based oils.
Grapat’s workshop is located in the countryside, and being close to nature can make some tones and colours have variations. How the dye can impregnate in the wood depends on the humidity or if there is wind. The workshop is structured according to the TEAL philosophy, which is based on self-management, fulfillment and personal growth.
Each piece that passes through Grapat’s hands is unique as it is painted by hand. Since Grapat defends the value of nature, they accept imperfection; it is beautiful and makes the material even more valuable. The cloth bags that are included in some of the products come from big companies that discard material with a small defect. As Grapat produces the bags by hand they can remove these defects and give the bags a second life. The fabrics vary and do not always match with photos of the products. All the fabrics have a GOTS Certificate (Global Organic Textile Standard) as they are produced ecologically and with social responsibility.
Care Instructions: If you clean Grapat wood products only use a damp cloth. Do not submerge in water and do not use disinfectant or hot water.
