Mountain Lion
Commonly referred to as the cougar, puma, or catamount, the mountain lion is a large feline native to the Americas. Surprisingly, it shares a closer genetic link with domestic cats than with big cats from Africa or Asia.
History: The mountain lion, alongside the jaguar, is the largest cat in the New World. It is classified as a species of least concern, boasting the widest range of any land animal in the Americas. However, habitat loss due to human expansion is leading to isolated populations.
Scientific Name: Puma concolor
Characteristics: While mountain lions have no natural predators, they often compete with bears and wolves for food. With that in mind, we’re sure this mountain lion toy figurine would appreciate a spot on your desk or nightstand as well as a meal to itself!
