In France, the Tooth Fairy is replaced by La Petite Souris (The Little Mouse), a tiny mouse who collects lost baby teeth from under pillows and leaves money or small gifts in their place, a tradition rooted in a 17th-century French fairy tale. Children leave their tooth for the mouse, often accompanied by bedtime stories about her, to find a reward in the morning, similar to the Tooth Fairy but with a furry, scurrying visitor.
